member or if you want to offer your services to provide a ride to
someone in your area, contact our transportation coordinator, Dr.
Tonette Long, at skylark39@windstream.net

Other program highlights include the always-popular member readings, a reading by Robert Simon from his new book of poetry, a workshop by Jill Jennings, and the unveiling of the 2008 The Reach of Song by Dr. Robert Lynn. Dr. Robert Simon is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Kennesaw State University. He attended Boston University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts and his Master of Arts degrees in Hispanic Language and Literatures in 2000. He earned his Ph.D. in Literature in May, 2006 from the University of Texas at Austin. He has taught both Spanish and Portuguese language, and has investigated the presence of Surrealism, Mysticism and postmodernism in Contemporary Peninsular Literatures. His poetry includes the book New Poems from the Airplane and Graveyard (Finishing Line Press, 2007) and other poems published in several journals across the nation, including The Reach of Song, The American Poetry Journal and The New York Quarterly. He explains his poetry as "an exploration of the intimate connection between love, death and the languages that harness and define me as both a poet and a scholar."
Jill Jennings has won top awards from the Georgia Poetry Society, Atlanta Writers Club, and other groups. A retired journalist, she served as editor of West Michigan Magazine, regular columnist and reviewer for The Athens Observer newspaper, and Public Relations Director for two PBS affiliates. After a long and varied career in public relations and fund-raising for non-profits, she decided to return to her first love: foreign language. For 18 years she has taught Latin and English in the public schools, where she also developed writing workshops for the English portion of the SAT exam. Since retiring in 2004, she has devoted herself full-time to writing and teaching writing workshops. She writes primarily in English and French. An avid traveler and linguist, Jill lives in Woodstock, Georgia with her husband, Paul Cheng. Her first full-length volume of poetry, The Poetry Alarm Clock, will be out August 1, 2008.
